Ring of the Day
Mechanic Dad Ring Story: Built by his hands.
My dad was the person everyone called when something stopped working.
He carried grease-stained hands, long shop nights, and fixing everyone else's problems first. Most people only saw the outside of it, but the people closest to him saw what it cost.
Then we asked, "How do we thank the hands that kept everything running?"
That is when it hit us that those hands had carried more than tools. He fixed cars, doors, engines, and bad days, usually before anyone knew how tired he was.
What we wanted to say was simple: thank you for keeping us moving when life broke down.
That is when the ring finally made sense. Not as jewelry first, but as a place to keep the story. The design uses wrenches, engine lines, work gloves, garage light, and a family nameplate. The engraving carries the whole message: Built by his hands.
He rubbed his thumb over the engraving and laughed because he did not want to cry. Some love looks like work boots by the door and light still on in the garage.
Symbols: wrenches, engine lines, work gloves, garage light, and a family nameplate.
Engraving line: Built by his hands.

🧒 For little kids
If you could plan tomorrow morning, what would make it start well?
If the table goes quiet: "What is one thing we can actually do?"
🧑 For teens
What is one thing adults could stop assuming about teenagers?
If the table goes quiet: "What would be a better question to ask?"
💑 For couples
Where did we handle something well as a team lately?
If the table goes quiet: "What should we repeat from that?"
Bible Study
Today: Proverbs 20, ESV
Proverbs 20 is a chapter about sober judgment in every sense of the word. In modern language, it warns that wine, anger, dishonest deals, impulsive promises, and self-flattery all cloud judgment. The chapter values character that can be tested, business practices that are honest, counsel that is drawn out patiently, and trust that waits for the Lord instead of rushing to repay evil. It also honors both young strength and gray-haired wisdom, reminding families that generations need each other.
Read the full chapter in the ESV translation, then use these questions for a short table or porch conversation.
Context for the book
Proverbs gathers wisdom instruction for people learning to fear the Lord in everyday life. It trains readers to recognize the difference between wisdom and folly in speech, discipline, money, work, family, friendship, and desire. Today's reading focuses on sobriety, honest character, just measures, patient counsel, waiting on the Lord, generational honor, and the limits of self-assessment.
Context from the previous chapter
Proverbs 19 emphasized integrity, counsel, discipline, and avoiding haste. Proverbs 20 continues those themes with warnings about intoxication, dishonest measures, impulsive vows, revenge, and the difficulty of seeing one's own heart clearly.
1. What does it say?
- The chapter warns that wine and strong drink can mock and lead people astray, and that avoiding unnecessary quarrels is honorable.
- It condemns dishonest weights and measures while asking who can truly claim to have kept the heart completely clean.
- It praises patient counsel, waiting on the Lord instead of taking revenge, and the complementary glory of youth's strength and age's wisdom.
2. What does it mean?
- Wisdom values clarity because anything that clouds judgment can make a person easier to rule by appetite, anger, or pride.
- Honesty must be practical enough to reach the marketplace, the invoice, the scale, the contract, and the way we describe ourselves.
- The chapter humbles self-confidence by reminding us that our own hearts need examination beyond our preferred self-story.
3. How does it apply to my life today?
- Consider what clouds your judgment most: alcohol, anger, hurry, flattery, fatigue, screens, or the desire to win.
- In business or household decisions, make the numbers and terms honest enough that you would not fear someone checking them.
- When wronged, wait on the Lord before deciding how to respond; revenge often feels clarifying while actually narrowing wisdom.
4. What habit, thought, desire, or practice should change?
- Remove or limit one judgment-clouding influence today before it shapes speech, spending, conflict, or family tone.
- Make one transaction, report, or explanation more honest and transparent than the minimum required.
- Ask God to search your heart in one area where you normally assume your motives are clean.
