Lineman Husband Ring Story: You brought the light home. ring mockup

Lineman Husband Ring Story: You brought the light home.

My husband is the one people rarely see until the power is already out.

He carried storm calls, cold nights, dangerous climbs, and leaving dinner half-finished when the lights went dark. Most people only saw the outside of it, but the people closest to him saw what it cost.

Then I asked, "How do you honor someone who keeps showing up when the weather turns against everyone?"

That is when I understood that his work was not just wires and poles; it was keeping families warm, connected, and safe. Every restored light meant someone else's home could feel normal again, even while he was away from ours.

What we wanted to say was simple: thank you for bringing the light home.

That is when the ring finally made sense. Not as jewelry first, but as a place to keep the story. The design uses utility pole, climbing hooks, storm clouds, lightning line, house lights, and a horizon wire. The engraving carries the whole message: You brought the light home.

He turned the ring toward the light and smiled like he knew exactly what it meant. Some people carry their families by keeping other families from sitting in the dark.

Symbols: utility pole, climbing hooks, storm clouds, lightning line, house lights, and a horizon wire.

Engraving line: You brought the light home.

Bible Study

Today: Proverbs 13, ESV

Proverbs 13 gathers wisdom around teachability, work, desire, companionship, and discipline. In modern language, it says the life you want is usually shaped by the voices you heed, the words you release, the habits you repeat, and the people you walk with. It also speaks tenderly to disappointment: hope deferred can make the heart sick, but wisdom still asks us to pursue desire in righteous ways, accept discipline, and build something that can bless more than ourselves.

Read the full chapter in the ESV translation, then use these questions for a short table or porch conversation.

Context for the book

Proverbs gathers wisdom instruction for people learning to fear the Lord in everyday life. It trains readers to recognize the difference between wisdom and folly in speech, discipline, money, work, family, friendship, and desire. Today's reading focuses on listening to instruction, guarding the mouth, diligence, delayed hope, wise companions, discipline, and leaving a faithful inheritance.

Context from the previous chapter

Proverbs 12 highlighted loving correction, truthful speech, and diligent work. Proverbs 13 carries those themes forward and adds emphasis on wise companionship, disciplined desire, and the long-term fruit of instruction received or refused.

1. What does it say?

  • The chapter contrasts a wise child who hears instruction with a scoffer who refuses rebuke and brings trouble through the mouth.
  • It teaches that diligent desire is satisfied over time, while laziness, empty talk, and dishonest gain lead toward lack or trouble.
  • It says wise companions make a person wise, discipline shows love, and a good person leaves blessing beyond one lifetime.

2. What does it mean?

  • The people and voices closest to us are formative; companionship is never neutral because habits and assumptions are contagious.
  • Desire needs wisdom, not denial only; the chapter knows longing can hurt, but it calls for patient and righteous pursuit.
  • Discipline is an act of love when it trains someone toward life rather than merely punishing inconvenience.

3. How does it apply to my life today?

  • Audit the voices shaping you: friends, feeds, podcasts, mentors, coworkers, and family patterns are discipling your expectations.
  • When hope feels deferred, bring the ache honestly to God without grabbing a shortcut that would corrupt the desire.
  • For parents, discipline should be consistent, loving, and future-focused, not merely a reaction to being annoyed.

4. What habit, thought, desire, or practice should change?

  • Move closer to one wise companion and create distance from one foolish influence that repeatedly normalizes bad choices.
  • Turn one deferred hope into prayer and one patient action instead of bitterness, numbing, or manipulation.
  • Guard your mouth for one full conversation, especially where a careless word would create avoidable trouble.
