My grandpa carried family history in stories that started before we knew our own names.
He carried keeping old names alive, blessing the table, telling the hard parts plainly, and making heritage feel like belonging. Most people only saw the outside of it, but the people closest to him saw what it cost.
Then my grandchild asked, "Can a ring hold the roots he kept handing down?"
That is when I saw his stories were not about the past staying past; they were about knowing where we came from. He made our family feel less scattered by tying us back to names, places, and promises.
What we wanted to say was simple: thank you for keeping our roots alive.
That is when the ring finally made sense. Not as jewelry first, but as a place to keep the story. The design uses celtic knotwork, tree roots, hill line, claddagh heart, braided rail, and family initials. The engraving carries the whole message: Our roots still hold.
He touched the knotwork slowly and said the old family name under his breath. Heritage matters most when it teaches a family how to belong to each other.

Today: Proverbs 26, ESV
Proverbs 26 is blunt about folly in social life. In modern language, it warns that foolishness is not harmless entertainment when it distorts honor, creates quarrels, excuses laziness, spreads gossip, or hides cruelty behind jokes. The chapter teaches discernment because wise responses are not one-size-fits-all: sometimes a fool should not be answered on his terms, and sometimes folly must be exposed. It also shows how gossip and deception keep conflict burning long after wisdom would have let the fire go out.

1. What does it say?
- The chapter says honor does not fit a fool and gives paired warnings about when answering a fool may either imitate or expose folly.

3. How does it apply to my life today?
- Before engaging a foolish argument online or at home, ask whether answering will clarify truth or simply pull you into the same foolish frame.
- Identify one excuse that has been protecting laziness, especially an excuse that sounds reasonable because it has been repeated often.
- When a conversation turns to gossip, notice whether you are helping remove wood from the fire or adding more fuel.
4. What habit, thought, desire, or practice should change?
- Decline one pointless quarrel today, not out of fear, but because wisdom refuses to be recruited into folly's theater.
- Replace one lazy excuse with an honest sentence and a completed action, even if the action is small.
- Stop one gossip-fire by changing the subject, refusing to speculate, or going directly and lovingly to the person involved.
