The house was quieter after the old dog stopped waiting by the door.
He carried years of loyal greetings, muddy walks, and making every return feel important. Most people only saw the outside of it, but the people closest to him saw what it cost.
Then my pet owner asked, "Could his nose print and name keep the welcome close?"
That is when I saw that every ordinary arrival had been a gift. He had made a home feel alive simply by being glad we were there.
What we wanted to say was simple: thank you for waiting for us.
