What is wrong with that? It doesn’t state that you WILL see any of the birsts. May gives no promise whatsoever. Also it is a good knock on the conscious to include the now extinct species in the list.
Just because a species has been declared extinct doesn’t necessarily mean that there isn’t the possibility that a few individuals might still be alive in the wild. It’s still possible, however unlikely, that one might happen across an example of an “extinct” bird.
It occured to me that maybe these birds went extinct during the time it took to put this sign up. And that made me really sad. Here’s hoping the folks who made this thing had Sarge’s idea in mind, and not mine.

Also, it has been known for an “extinct” species to be rediscovered. I guess hope springs eternal in the hearts of conservationists.
I only like birds, not birsts.
This may be a older sheet or something. It was not until 1939, however, that it was determined that the Carolina Parakeet had become extinct.
What’s wrong is that it says you may see the California Parakeet, but that’s impossible, ’cause it’s extinct!
Extinction is temporary, right? RIGHT?
Hey.. you might see it..
A corpse but you’d still see it..
If it hasn’t been eaten by something already..
I can see dead birds.
There’s another extinct one on the first line…
Yup
You forgot Bachman’s warbler is extinct too.
Also, you saw them on the sign. That works.
You beat me to it…. D:<
OMG – how did I miss it !
I find it hilarious that the red line goes THROUGH the other extinct bird!
You know that line, “gone, but never forgotten?” Yeah, I think we have just seen a prime example of defiance to this.
OK, so I’m old. I wasn’t paying attention. At least I noticed the extinct parakeet !
It’s not extinct, it’s resting. It’s pining for the fjords.
Hullo parrot !

Is that ironic? Or is it just WRONG? Is there a fine line here?
The Carolina Wren has also been extinct for at least a century.
no they’re not…
You’re WAY off there ! The Carolina Wren is a very COMMON bird in this area ! I have them nesting on my porch every year !
So no one’s noticed the American Woodcock, second on the top row?
Yellow-bellied sapsucker
Tufted Titmouse
Huh huh, you said . . .
NOT extinct, very common. Check http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/American_Woodcock/lifehistory
Um yeah, I think Greg meant that the name “Woodcock” is highly suggestive…
It occured to me that maybe these birds went extinct during the time it took to put this sign up. And that made me really sad. Here’s hoping the folks who made this thing had Sarge’s idea in mind, and not mine.
Not at all likely as the sign is less than a year old.
My God — a pigeon. That’s the last bird on my list. Heh.
So long, suckers!
Now I’m gonna have to go back & photograph the WHOLE sign & see what else is on there that I missed …
>8C how DARE you beat me to that!
There are TWO with “(extinct)” underneath them!!!!!
the Bachman’s Warbler has it too!
It says you may see them, it doesn’t say they’ll be alive.
It’s simple, you’ve just got to hit 88 mph in your customized DeLorean while traveling the Greenway. Anyone can see it then!
LOL !! Why didn’t _I_ think of that !?
It’s a 4D bird.
Can I see a Dodo too?
