And this has what to do with global warming? Seriously, it’s obviously from rainwaters, not a melted ice cap as the pic so ‘ironically’ implies. If you still think global warming is real, you’ve been living under a rock during this winter’s recording breaking cold snaps across the country. But I forgot, the cheezburger sites usually focus on liberal humor. ha…..
From what I understand, Global Warming is a bit of a misnomer. There are results that involve freezing in hot areas and warming in freezing areas.
Actually, Global Warming causes hot areas to get hotter and freezing areas colder. The fact that the warming melts the ice on antarctica is for an other reason, as I recall from my geography lessons, it has something to do with some sort of “Oxygen Block” that doesn’t let Co2 to recreate itself on that area during winter, or something like that. Check on Wikipedia to make sure.
Mike, a couple of points:
1) The scientific consensus is that anthropogenic global warming is occurring. The fact that we’ve had an unusually cold winter does nothing to counter this. This is the weather, not the climate, a difference lost on so many. Concurrently, parts of the southern hemisphere were having unusually hot summers. So by your logic we have both proven and disproven global warming in one go…nice work.
2) The image in question is actually by the famous artist Banksy, who is renowned for street art making political statements, in this case ridiculing people like you who dismiss the global warming out of hand based upon ignorance.

If by “made up several major reports” you mean “the IPCC has confirmed that one of the studies it mentioned in it’s 1000+ pg report was flawed and should not have been included”, then sure.
The nice thing about scientists is that we publicize and correct our mistakes.
No, I mean made up as in the IPCC has now lost so much credibility that even India is quitting the UN Climate panel. There is so much corruption in this deal that it is laughable. Turns out several of their major reports were based on anecdotal reports from the WWF. The science is real, the results just are not what they wanted so they (non-scientists and politicians) fabricated information for their own nefarious reasons.

Saying that the weather of a single season refutes global warming is like looking at the scores from a single day of baseball and saying you know who will win the World Series. This is a long-term trend, based on observations made over decades. I could go to Australia and refute all of this, by pointing out that it’s hot and sunny in February.
Decades? Really? Because in the 70′s they were worried about global cooling.
Yes, a minority of studies predicted global cooling in the 70s, before computer models and data collection were as sophisticated as they are now. In fact, localized cooling is still quite possible, for instance melting of the Arctic ice sheet decreasing the salinity of the North Atlantic, thus disrupting the Gulf Stream and causing Western Europe to freeze.
Wether =/= Climate. Do your research! The planet still has winters and still has seasons. If you look at the GLOBAL averages, then countries like Australia have had much hotter summers. Plus the more heat, the more evaporation, and the more snow you will get when winter sets in. Please do your research before posting an ignorant comment

To those people who answered me: Yeah, I know that global warming is supposed to cause flooding. But, they’re quite common as it is, in some areas. And I don’t remember that the ice caps would’ve yet melted, so as this is slightly ironic, it isn’t really ironic because that flood probably wasn’t caused by global warming.

I think he was simply pointing out that this flood was most likely caused by rain, so it’s not as ironic as it could be. And, since this is done on purpose by Banksy, it’s not ironic at all.
Sorry ’bout to correct you, but the increasing of the water line isn’t caused by melting ice caps. The bigger part is caused by the warming of the oceans, which expand due to the common physical law that heater liquids have more volume.

@Humm. If global warming is correct, then the ice caps are melting and the sea level is rising, and will cause a few feet of water to rise over our land, making coastal cities that lie just a few feet above water flooded and fucked.
Which means that where I live (about forty miles inland) will be oceanfront property. Which would be great if I didn’t live in an area that gets hurricanes every so often.
Actually, the projections for sea-level rise are about thermal expansion of liquid water as much as they are about melting ice. Even if the ice caps stay frozen, it’s possible to dramatic sea level rises based on temperature changes in the ocean.

PS, an article in the Chicago Tribune today reported that the British Parliament and an independent commission investigated the so-called “Climategate” and both reached the same conclusion: While there were problems with recordkeeping, and the scientists involved could have worked closer with statisticians, there was absolutely no wrongdoing, malfeasance, coverup, or other ethical violations of any sort, and the data is valid. The hacking is still being investigated by law enforcement. In short, Climategate is, as Shakespeare may have said, much ado about nothing.

This is precisely why the international science community starting using the term “global climate change” – because tiny-minded right wing morons kept saying “Oh, but’s it’s cold today! So much for global warming! Har har har!” Weather is not equal to climate, you idiots. Here in Melbourne, Australia, we had 43 C last Monday (110 F or so) and one week later it’s pissing with rain and might not make 20 C (70 F or so). Due to changes in CLIMATE our WEATHER has become more extreme and more severe, with droughts being followed by floods.
Oh, and yeah, as others have noted, this is political graffiti by British artist Banksy. Does deliberate irony count?
Just as a FYI, according to the reporting stations themselves, Australia has had a ~0.7 degree C -drop- in average temps over the past 150 years. Reports of Australia having a rise over the same timeframe were using a very carefully selected subset of the reporting data along with creative “fudging” of the averages, but the actual numbers from the stations themselves are running opposed to that assertion.
Global climate change is real, proven science – anthropogenic effect, OTOH, is actually being -refuted- by raw observation data. AGW is a convenient tool for scientists seeking funding and politicians seeking excuses to promote their pet agendas, and is no longer the “hard” or “proven” science its promoters claim.
Maybe Bansky has gone meta with the irony?

Oh, the climate change skeptics are at it again. You shouldn’t be denying a phenomenon when you don’t understand what it actually means. Mike – there’s more to climate change than simply ice caps melting (which they ARE – yes, they melt and re-freeze seasonally, but when measured on a multi-year scale rising global temperatures are causing a drop in ice coverage from one winter to the next)
For example, climate change also causes the temperature of the oceans to increase. This causes much more forceful storms, such as hurricanes, which DO cause massive flooding. Higher ocean temperatures correlates to more frequent, more powerful hurricanes, which correlates to more frequent, more devestating flooding.

The ironic part of this is that the water level has gone down since the graffiti was painted on the wall. If the warming enthusiasts are correct, the sign should eventually disappear under the water line. Not the case in this photo. you can see how the water line is about a foot below the graffiti now.

Right, because this has anything to do with global warming. If global warming DID exist, and ice melted…it’d raise the oceans about 12 inches, not 12 feet. This picture isn’t ironic, just moronic.
It would also disrupt the Gulf Stream current, which would cause western Europe to become drastically colder, and would also likely disrupt other ocean currents, causing all sorts of nasty weather. And twelve inches would still be enough to cause massive flooding in low-lying areas, disrupt water tables and the salt content of estuaries, possibly result in tidal flooding of rivers…you know, nothing to worry about.

I suspect that the solar system is passing through a warmer part of space due to the closer proximity of larger stars and maybe even black holes.

Well, that’s not necessarily from Global Warming. Could just be a standard flood.
Besides, Global Warming is still only a theory. There’s more than one way to melt stuff (eg: adding impurities, like when you put salt on ice). Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be more careful about the environment, it’s pretty clear we’re quite capable of screwing stuff up on a large scale (giant floating island of plastic anyone?).
