Dude I live in that city and I can’t believe I have NEVER noticed that before!! But then again, it is located in the downtown area and I don’t like going there… too many one way streets confusing me and then you deal with all of the jaywalkers… but man, that’s so hilarious!!
SURE! Only WHITES people are racist… LOL!
No scholarity, smoke weed of crack, pack yourself into a getto and fear what other May think of you. that not gonna help you. Stop to thing life as lazy. get up n get a job and a life. LOOK oriental and hindoui most of them are working for their living, it not usually them we view who do commit crime.
If people don’t want other people to be racist then they should learn to stop perpetuating stereotypes. Wear regular clothes that actually fit, get a job, and use complete sentences… It’s not a whole lot to ask.
Though like without racist stereotypes would be pretty boring. XD
Wow, that is in fact. . . .racist.
And I”m betting, you are white.
Which sadly means, you are the reason for the stereotype.
Quit complaining Jimmy, and get a job yourself-I can smell your rancid welfare collecting buttocks from here.
Actually the reason for the stereotype is the disproportionately large number of African Americans who are arrested at least once in their lifetime.
It’s also a fact most racists don’t qualify for welfare.
Yes, there are racist blacks too, but 1. You are also being racist, 2. Neither the post nor any of the comments have any anti-white racism, and 3. This is a humor blog, you’re taking things too seriously.
And I can tell you that those two ideas have no business being in the same sentence. The comma should be a period and “I’m” added just after (otherwise, the resulting second sentence would be a fragment).
I’m confused: did you get any “scholarity”, because I’m not at all sure what you are trying to say? So there is no education, rampant drug use, a choice is made to live in a poor neighbourhood and inferiority complex is quite common? I think I finally understand white suburban American!!
WOW and I thought South African white people were bad (personal experience!!)
I don’t know about anybody else, but my ears hurt from watching that kid scream over and over again……
It’s like my ears are searching for the sound, and yet shielding themselves because of the knowledge that if they do hear something it will probably be quite loud.
Jimmy, thank you for making an entire race of people look like un-educated, easily offended, humorless rednecks. I appreciate being white so much more now that I have your cape-wearing self to come in and point out things about other races while not giving any level of respect at all to the English language. It thoroughly pleases me that someone such as yourself is allowed access to the internet.
Stranger still, you don’t seem to understand that no one here is ACTUALLY claiming that the sign is racist, just that it’s funny because it’s “accidentally racist” – but you don’t understand humor. Which means you probably don’t understand sarcasm either – so just to be clear, that whole first paragraph where I said I was proud to be white knowing that there are people like you out there — that was all a lie. In truth, people like you, on both sides of the racial fence, are the reason racism is still around. You’re too ignorant to realize that you’re wrong, and to proud to admit it when someone tells you just how wrong you are.
For anyone who might attempt to form an opinion on the average white American based on Jimmy’s post: Please note that all most all of us recieved at least 5 years of education before we were let loose on the internet. It’s true. Some of us even still acknowledge grammar and spelling. But more importantly, most of us realize that despite cultural differences, most people are just people.
Everyone’s a little bit racist, sometimes!
Doesn’t mean we go around commiting hate cri-i-imes.
Look around and you will find…
No ones really color-blind!
Maybe it’s a fact we all should fa-a-ace,
everyone makes judgements, based on race.
Ok I live by Wichita and I don’t find this sign to be considered racist. I showed it to my husband who is black and he doesn’t find it racist either. It’s just a sign, that’s it. I think it’s racist for YOU to think of it as the jail to be the museum. When you insinuate that something is something that it really isn’t then it starts to become racist. Because the person that starts this ends up being the one considered racist. for you cant call a whole city racist because of a sign.
Please just get a life and stop looking for reasons to be offended. Learn to laught at yourselves. We in England constantly “Rip the Piss” out of each other. Scottish, English, Welsh, Irish jokes all abusing each other. IT IS FUNNY YOU PLONKERS. God Help us lose all this crazy political correctness and get back to having a laugh with each other.
Really? There’s a racist sign in Wichita? -m sure that is exactly what the city planners wanted when they allowed the sign. they really slipped one by Carl Brewer didnt they? Seriously, its just a sign. You are reading too far into it.
I would like to take a moment to point out that the jail is 1. next to the museum. 2. both are on an L shaped street and the jail is at the crook of the L and the Museum which USED to be court house is next to the mail. So thusly the sign is at the beginning of the L telling you what is down the street. The JAIL does not surround the museum either. There is in this order.. the County COURT house…. the Mail… then the Museum.. across from all three is the parking garage used by all three… grow up!
I was actually wondering about something like that.
It’s possible that the signs were actually put up at different times, so no one thought about it when the second sign was being put up.
I live several miles from that sign too. The museum tried to move to another location, but it didn’t happen. I am not sure on the history of that, the attempted move happened last year I think…
I live in wichita myself and find the sign to be absolutely hillarious. I’m sure the sign wasn’t a case of “the man trying to keep a brother down” like some people insinuate. Just an unintentional funny. I wonder though if any of the people who erected the sign realized what they were putting up
Dude. You people who are getting all I LIVE IN WICHITA AND THAT SIGN IS NOT RACIST BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH WHINE WHINE oh, go suck on some cheese it’s a flippin’ joke. A JOKE.
Those of you who are defending the sign saying that it’s not racist, you’re totally missing the point here. Nobody thinks that the people who put this sign up meant to imply that there was any connection between the two. The reason it’s funny (to some) is because them being in the same direction reinforces black stereotypes.
I’ll also add here that if we’re to assume that this post is funny because of what I previously stated (in other words, if it’s funny because of the stereotype that black people commit crimes), then this is the opposite of irony. It would be ironic if the signs were for a whore house and a purity ring shop, for example.
I am from Wichita as well. To the person who insinuated that we never have seen the sign because “it is in a bad part of town”. The museum is downtown-along with all the other museums. It is sandwiched between a courthouse and the jail. NOT in a bad part of town, just not in a convenient place.
I was just wondering what’s so “racist” about the signs? Neither of them are wrong by themselves, so what if they are together?
I’m certainly not a proponent of racism in any form but people seem to get stuck on the idea that racism only includes white people holding down black people. I studied history in my undergrad and I know this to be the truth, but racism includes any idiot of any race being ethnocentric to the point of saying “my race is better because it’s my race”(it doesn’t matter what race it is – there is no such thing as reverse racism).
As for the signs would it be racist if the second sign was to a sports stadium rather than a jail? Both have a large population of young black men. Would it still be racist if it was an ethnically Asian museum? How about if it was a woman’s prison?
In short where do we draw the line? Sometimes a sign is just a sign. Neither of the signs are saying they are the same place. They are both just pointing to major landmarks in the area.
Should museums now not be allowed to be built along the same roadway as a jail simply because some people may try to call it offensive.
So many people cry out for national unity regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation etc… (I’m one of them) but the divides of this country are kept wide and deep, not because of the outright racists, but because of people who try to find places where they can be offended and feel self-righteous doing so. If the people who are looking so hard to find things to be offended about would just take things with an open heart and forgive some of the transgressions of the past (yes I do know how hard that would be) then people just might find themselves coming together, closer and quicker than anyone felt possible.
As for the true racists out there, you need to realize that everybody is equal legally and otherwise; and if you insist on making use of your right to be an ignorant jerk then others will too and nothing will ever get solved.
Ok that’s the end of my rant.
Cheers
I have a nagging suspicion that you’re white, and just acting like an illiterate person who is black. I feel very sorry for you, along with many other people. By the way, if you think you’re funny, thnk again.
That’s my city…. yeah, They’ve take it down and rearranged signs cause people bitched a fit about it. but the African American Museum is RIGHT in front of the Jail. so technically they’re the same way down the street
For all of you saying that these signs aren’t racist… They are IRONICALLY racist, hence why they’re on an ironic humor board. Your political correctness is fucking ridiculous.
DANNNNGGGG!!! “Weed of crack”? That was funnier than the original. As for looking “oriental or Hindoui”…. no chance of that for me, anyway. Who is the racist now?
I hve a story for you all. I am a registered nurse who works in a county jail. I work in the booking area, examining folks brought in by cops and sheriff dept. employees 24 hrs. a day. 80% are african-american males between the ages of 18-26 yrs. old. They have knots on their heads from being beated during arrests, dislocated shoulders, wrists, fingers, splits lips: these are par for the course. When I ask them how this occured, they tell me some variation of this: “Ma’am, some friends of mine and I were standing on the streetcorner/in front of my house/ playing ball in the street, and the cops came by and asked us for I.D. When we had none they wanted to search us, when we refused, they said we were exhibiting suspicious activity, and wanted to arrest us. When demanded to know on what charge, they beat us to the ground.” Their paperwork confirms usually no further charge, and they are released in the a.m. Now, some may be lying, but logic dictates: can they ALL be lying? BTW, I am a 48 year old white female with insomnia, who frequently walks my dog at all hours of the night. Police cars pass me all the time in my neighborhood. At no time have I ever been stopped and asked for I.D. If you’ve never lived it, then please shut up. I would hate to be treated as a perpetual suspect in my own community.
I don’t this it’s racist. YOU’RE being racist for saying it’s racist, because you are looking at it wrong. Sure it makes one giggle a little, but I don’t think the people who designed the alignment of the signs intended it to look like that. And this is coming from a 7th grader
THAT’S RACIST!
i live 45 miles away from this sign i want it now. lol
Dude I live in that city and I can’t believe I have NEVER noticed that before!! But then again, it is located in the downtown area and I don’t like going there… too many one way streets confusing me and then you deal with all of the jaywalkers… but man, that’s so hilarious!!
I live 40 miles away!!! Crazy!
lol i live in wichita…they actually took the sign down not too long after this got popular on the internet
Dat;s Raysits!
wonder showzen!
I sense a trap!
ouch
That’s in Wichita, KS. I’v seen pics of it but have not seen it person.
*Facepalm*
Well, I know a sign guy that’s going to get fired now.
I live in Sedgwick County. It’s sad that Wichita is such a “racist” city.
Wow… As much as I try.. I’m still having a hard time reading this…
And it may be wrong or racists but I know more than one of you giggled when you saw it… Even the ones who yelled Racist..
Might be racist… But it’s still funny. XD
If people don’t want other people to be racist then they should learn to stop perpetuating stereotypes. Wear regular clothes that actually fit, get a job, and use complete sentences… It’s not a whole lot to ask.
Though like without racist stereotypes would be pretty boring. XD
This is quite a ironic thing to place it on friends of irony – your playing the race card by being racist Ironic is so many different ways
Lol, Jimmy. Way to take a joke and jump soooo far away from the realm of funny.
Yes, there are racist blacks too, but 1. You are also being racist, 2. Neither the post nor any of the comments have any anti-white racism, and 3. This is a humor blog, you’re taking things too seriously.
1. Where can I find this “weed of crack”?
2. How do I look oriental and hindoui?
i wish i could get some weed of crack,
????? English as a 2nd language? Or maybe 3rd of 4th
Your job obviously isn’t in the smarts department. wtf is scholarity!?
dude, u spelled “ghetto” wrong. im a 6th grader in la and i knew tht…wow
He fails.
You win.
Spell right, one grade above you and even I know how to spell “you” and “that”…
And I can tell you that those two ideas have no business being in the same sentence.
Your grammar sucks.
Jimmy, it strikes me that perhaps you lack a certain degree of “scholarity.”
Well, the museum is right next to the jail. Surrounded by it, in fact.

Not quite. If you knew how small the museum was, though…
I don’t know about anybody else, but my ears hurt from watching that kid scream over and over again……
It’s like my ears are searching for the sound, and yet shielding themselves because of the knowledge that if they do hear something it will probably be quite loud.
My ears are an abused dog looking for some love…
Hindoui was a great magician.
FlabbaWoe, you’re an idiot. Hindoui was a great musician.
Yeah yeah yeah… never hear of indians complaining of signs that point to the indian reservation and the local casino in the same sign.
Jimmy, thank you for making an entire race of people look like un-educated, easily offended, humorless rednecks. I appreciate being white so much more now that I have your cape-wearing self to come in and point out things about other races while not giving any level of respect at all to the English language. Yay. I concur. ( Was that to big of a word for you, Jimmy? I know you can’t spell anything containing five or mor letters.)
Everyone’s a little bit racist, sometimes!
Doesn’t mean we go around commiting hate cri-i-imes.
Look around and you will find…
No ones really color-blind!
Maybe it’s a fact we all should fa-a-ace,

you win +1 internets for that reference! *high five*
Now I’m curious…what race am I?!?
Human, I hope! Haha!
NARWHARL!
guess who that little kid is learning racism from? Cause, ya know, its a LEARNED thing.
Ok I live by Wichita and I don’t find this sign to be considered racist. I showed it to my husband who is black and he doesn’t find it racist either. It’s just a sign, that’s it. Jimmy’s been smokin’ too much “weed of crack” – or not enough!
I live in wichita myself and find the sign to be absolutely hillarious. I’m sure the sign wasn’t a case of “the man trying to keep a brother down” like some people insinuate. Just an unintentional funny. I wonder though if any of the people who erected the sign realized what they were putting up
That sign pair is on par with a set where I live; sign for the University and the county insane asylum. [and I've never found the asylum]
That’s crazy!
OH! I was looking through the website and…woah (!!!)I thought it looked a little too familiar…
I wonder if the reason none of the locals ever noticed it before is because the African American museum is in the “bad” part of town?
Your inference being that no locals live in or visit the “bad” part of town? weird
That’s wacist!
Dude. You people who are getting all I LIVE IN WICHITA AND THAT SIGN IS NOT RACIST BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH WHINE WHINE oh, go suck on some cheese it’s a flippin’ joke. A JOKE.

I didn’t even know we had an African American museum. Now, I like history and stuff, so I’m gonna have to visit that museum some time.
synonyms.
Oh god I could literally hear that kid’s voice
To imply that racism implies placing a jail somewhat near a museum. If that were a Caucasian history museum nobody would notice.
I was just wondering what’s so “racist” about the signs? Neither of them are wrong by themselves, so what if they are together?

Whoa that’s a lot of text and none of it is supporting the lol which what the whole point of Cheezburger networks is lols so please let us laugh
Haha, I’m also from Wichita and I’ve driven by this sign several times. I always laugh.
AHH.
This is Wichita, KS.
I have to go find this sign tonight.

Its just stating the truth…. whats the big deal?
dat sht be racist man !!!!! yall crackas betta wach yo step in kansas, cus spear chucker aint havin nat sht, belee dat, yo yo yo !!
I have a nagging suspicion that you’re white, and just acting like an illiterate person who is black. I feel very sorry for you, along with many other people. By the way, if you think you’re funny, thnk again.
get over it. its funny. lighten up.
hhahahahaha that figures
I’m black. I laughed.
“Is that a rasial slur?” “It is now~”
Now Irony is racist?
What’s racist is the fact that there is an African American museum and no White American Museum, college fund, School, History Month, etc.
Amen!
Yes, this is in Wichita, KS, and no, it’s not racist, it’s true. Why is this racist? Give me one good reason. You can’t, because it isn’t racist.
yeah well its still funny
That’s my city…. yeah, They’ve take it down and rearranged signs cause people bitched a fit about it. but the African American Museum is RIGHT in front of the Jail. so technically they’re the same way down the street
