  1. hotpants14 says:

This never would have happened if people wouldn’t have voted for Obama!

  2. Tony says:

That actually does ease congestion, because it’s usually the merging when the two lanes eventually join again that causes the backup (people often slow down to merge). So closing the second lane is often done, especially during holidays when the roads are packed. Just so you know… :)

    • IHazTank says:

Way to ruin the joke, dickhead. >:(

    • DaMentalFunism says:

True indeed. Not funny, sadly, but true.

Here’s what’s ironic: Cities building little extra lanes on roads to ease congestion. They actually make things worse when the extra lane runs out and everyone has to merge together again.

  3. Ash says:

This could only happen in the UK

  4. Johnny says:

Well maybe, but I still got this cough

  5. Jamie C says:

You know, as random as it is, I’m sure thats on the A30 in Cornwall just around Bodmin…

  6. AllYourFailAreBelongToUs says:

    The government doing its job

  7. Kari says:

Actually this is on the A38 on the hill up to Landrake in Cornwall (not that far from Bodmin you are right). Having that lane shut off makes no difference to the congestion at all = it is still a nightmare during the tourist season!

  8. Marsman says:

That’s a big waste of Nasonex.

  9. jgt2598 says:

Ahh…Bureaucracy!!! We all have it, we all hate, yet we just can’t get rid of it (its been in existance for all of recorded history any way).

  10. 5up3rj says:

maybe if you close another one?

  11. Gary says:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Braess%27s_paradox

“Braess’s paradox, credited to the mathematician Dietrich Braess, states that adding extra capacity to a network, when the moving entities selfishly choose their route, can in some cases reduce overall performance. This is because the Nash equilibrium of such a system is not necessarily optimal.”

In other words, sometimes removing choice and capacity (i.e. more lanes, more roads) makes it better for everyone.

  12. starlily says:

so they closed the lane, so we’ve all slowed to a crawl, so i can take my hands off the wheel and blow my nose without a problem. thanks, lane closed to ease congestion!

  13. mindfuck says:

Only in the UK would they spend loads of money to build the extra lane…. then close it down when it gets too busy….

  14. opal skylark says:

what are you talking about? it IS helping, see? no congestion in that lane!

  15. Nick says:

They should close the other lane also. Then there will be no congestion at all!

  16. relaxed says:

Well, it did ease the congestion in the closed lane. Look how clear it is!
