  1. Well... says:

Well technically he is right. According to most religions, you do go to hell if you practice freedom of speech. Just ask any religious person if it’s alright to criticize god.

Anyway, it beats me why there’s censorship in politics but religion is immune to it.

    • jamisings says:

Only to fundamentalist boneheads who are NOT true to religion or God. God gave us all free will.

In fact, God actually does want us to speak back to Him if we don’t like something. A lot of stories in the Torah are about people who told God off and were loved by God all the more for it. Even the name Israel means, I believe, “to wrestle with God.” Moses, Abraham, and many others actually told God when they felt He was wrong, and God listened.

But tell that to a bonehead like Fred Phelps and they won’t listen. Because deep down, people like Phelps are just power hungry atheists and won’t admit it.

      • Purple Switch says:

        All NRSV translations + wordings:

        Exodus 20.5
“for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquities of their parents, to the third and fourth generation of those who reject me”

(Nonbelievers are scum in the eyes of MORBO!)

        Job 40.8-9
“Will you even put me in the wrong? Will you condemn me that you may be justified? Have you an arm like God, and can you thunder with a voice like his?”

(God’s strong, you’re not, so he MUST be right!)

2 Kings 2.23-24 (2 Kings is 4 Kingdoms in some translations)
“some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him, saying “Go away, baldhead! Go away, baldhead!” When he turned around and saw them, he cursed them in the name of the LORD. Then two she-bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys.”

(And if you don’t like it, it’s BEAR TIME!)

You can find biblical support for pretty much any position, including mauling children with bears for insulting priests. Don’t try and paint Christianity as the one faith without flaws; it’s got good and bad bits like any other.

People like Phelps don’t have the good sense to figure out which parts are which, nor the compassion or morality to keep them from acting on it.

And please don’t use ‘atheists’ as an insult. We atheists object to that.

      • Eykal says:

Don’t forget, Jesus damned entire villages and cities for not following him! Apparently showing up and going “Sup y’all, son of god here…follow me or go to hell!” doesn’t endear people to you. I wonder why. He also criticized parents for not killing their disobedient children. Yeah, real philanthropist, that man. Go read the old testament.
Power hungry atheists? The bible was created to control people in a coldly logical manner. It was written when most people were illiterate and uneducated, so, how do you control them? Tell them that basic biological functions are BAD and WRONG, and that they’ll suffer eternal damnation if they even think about them.
The bible itself is riddled with logical inconsistencies, Jesus spoke in paradigms so that people wouldn’t understand him. That’s right, he purposefully confused people to make them go to hell. Also, the gospels’ accounts of the resurrection don’t match up at ALL.

The bible itself is sexist, as well. It states that it’s totally fine to rape someone as long as you pay the father and marry her. What. The. Fuck.

    • Andy says:

You don’t automatically go to hell if you practice freedom of speech … promoting your religion is practicing free speech, and something that most religions encourage or require.

  2. Max says:

    could be photoshopped.

  3. sargb says:

I actually saw this before. It was in a video of ppl protesting about some caricature of Muhammad I think.

  4. Azrael says:

Someone should just take his sign away. He should be happy about it.

  5. guy says:

Definitely NOT photoshopped. These wackos were protesting the “Mohammed cartoons.”

    • Scott says:

I’m sure there were signs like that but come on, look at it. The letters on the bottom are solid and computer like, not wrinkled like the paper underneath.

      • ... says:

Actually, they ARE wrinkled. It’s difficult to tell, due to the thickness and curvature of the lines, but they’re wrinkled. Also, the wrinkle across the ‘H’ isn’t deep enough to produce a visible effect.

    • PEACE says:

So that means, it is not photoshopped? LOL..

  6. Zebbedee says:

These are extremist muslims who were protesting about free speech at a homecoming parade for the soldiers who are fighting for us in iraq.

  7. respect says:

The ” wackos” were protesting against a cartoon insutling their religon which is sacred to them. That makes sense to me …. I think the picture is real not photoshop, the angle makes it seem photoshopped.

    • AZ says:

So true. Respect is really important, but so many people forget about it these days. These people are extremists, however, and are using very strong words; I have some some relatives who are Muslims and would be greatly offended that the caricature of Muhammad that appeared in that newspaper; it was very distasteful, but my relatives would not react like this. Not all Muslims are like this.

  8. n says:

yeah a newspaper pokes fun so naturally you have mass riots, turn over cars, attack free speech.

    *facepalm*

  9. Ha says:

    Get a brain! Morans.

  10. Tacoma says:

It’s only ironic to us. The people in this picture obviously believe that they should be the only ones able to express themselves. A more complete protest sign would read “Universal Freedom of Expression – Go To Hell!” Just like American slave-owners wanted to be able to vote but they didn’t want black people to be able to vote.

  11. A man says:

it doesn’t mean sense when you insult a whole religion and hurt others feelings by the name of ” freedom of speech ” how about self respect ? respect of the others ? as far as i know your freedom is limited by the others
;) just open up ur mind cuz hate won’t change a thing
by the way the war is not for u ! not defending the country from whatever the media put in ur head its for the very obvious reason OIL/MONEY
when someone have a brain the right thing to do with it is to THINK ;)

    • goose says:

Not really relevant. And no, an appropriate response to the insult of someone who doesn’t believe what you believe is NOT riots.

      • Somebody says:

These are not riots…these are PROTESTS!
And freedom of speech is fine and all, but of course if you insult somebody, you should also have the freedom to get hit in the jaw..,lol!

        • Insulted says:

I am insulted by your comments, deeply insulted. give me your address. don’t mind the can of gas and matches in my hands…

btw: these tards didn’t want to “hit in the jaw” they wanted blood. over a freaking cartoon.(or a book, depending on which protest its from)

We all have the right to believe what we want, and to express that belief. ergo if I believe your beliefs are stupid, I can say it. no-one has the right to never be insulted.

          • AZ says:

You may believe what you want, but please be respectful and keep it to yourself. I’m an agnostic athiest, but I don’t go round insulting religion.

          • The Guy with the Answers says:

Actually, you have every right to be insulted, you just can’t do anything about it…except perhaps protesting the protesters.

  12. TheLaughingBlackMan says:

these people are completely wrong. they cant protest free speech.

  13. fernblatt says:

    “…it’s BEAR TIME!”

    “NO! Yogi! No!”
